HOLY FOUNDATION, Where art Thou?

When I asked my friends on Makeupalley.com what was their ultimate challenge in the makeup world, one word dominated the discussion: F-O-U-N-D-A-T-I-O-N. If a woman's complexion is less than perfect, then the rest of her makeup becomes no so envious either. Have you found the perfect foundation that subtly enhances your not-so-perfect-not-so-photo-shopped complexion without the 2 inches of cake makeup?
Pick and try one of these miracle workers for a week straight and I promise you will have a new best friend:

1. Clinique Almost Powder Foundation

Flawless, perfectly believable skin in one stroke. Best powder foundation I have tried in many years. I love that there is nothing cakey, powdery about this powder.................only a great glow with a healthy spf 15. $22.50. Sephora.com

2. Make Up For Ever Face and Body foundation

A Jennifer Aniston favorite, non-oily, this multi-tasker lays a transparent and satin film and leaves to the epidermis the most natural aspect. This water-based gel gives a buildable coverage (my favorite type of liquid makeup to mold the perfect canvas) so you can layer and layer and layer....just kidding!! Ideal for all skin types and does NOT accentuate lines or large pores. $38.00 Sephora.com

3. Every Day Minerals All Natural Powder foundation

We are all too familiar with Bare Escentuals and the Bare Escentuals wannabes of the makeup world but this beats them all!!! I went through a "Bare Escentuals phase" but was quickly underwhelmed by it all. I felt like I was wearing chalk on my face and my skin was so itchy. Every Day Minerals does it better by dropping the bismuth (which is natural yes but is also a well known skin irritant) and the price. It's almost half the price the B. E. I ordered the trial size 2.5 g for $5 and I decided that it was the best mineral makeup: beautiful, smooth and creamy complexion. I also love that there are 4 different finishes: Matte, Semi-matte, Intensive and Original Glow. And the 32 shades make it hard NOT to find the perfect shade in your desirable finish. $12.00.Everydayminerals.com

4. Laura Mercier Oil-Free foundation

This winner of InStyle magazine Best Oil-free foundation award 2008 is highly pigmented hence the easily buildable application. I like to apply one sheer layer and go over the problem areas a second time. Result? An indiscernible cover-up. You have to use a sponge to apply this product though to blend it quickly (it dries quite fast). And I must mention it is also Angelina Jolie's makeup artist favorite. He uses it on her all the time. $42.00. Sephora.com

6. CHANEL Teint Innocence aka Fresh and Natural Complexion in a Sec by CHANEL.

My Holy Grail of Holy Grails!!!! It is one of the most perfect foundation in the industry. It provides a sheer to medium coverage and has light reflective pigment that gives a glorious glow to the skin. Oil-free and frenchie approved. I use my fingers or a foundation for a sheerer application. $45. CHANEL.com

7. Revlon Colorstay Makeup with Softflex SPF 6

This my favorite drugstore foundation. Its smooth, medium coverage literally lasts the ENTIRE flippin day. It won't budge nor break you out. It gives a natural matte look and doesn't look any cheaper than Dior or Armani. It is oil-free and contains zinc oxide which is a great anti-inflammatory for acne-prone skin!!!!!! For $12.99, it's worth giving it a try!!! S12.99. Drugstore.com

8. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation

Gods gift to the dry skin woman. It feels so light and creamy on the skin and COVERS everything and it very luminous. I love the fact that a little bit goes a long way!! I've never had to use such a small amount to create a perfect skin, the tube lasts forever. Da tube, I love da tube, it's so so convenient.
So let me say it again: long wearing, luminous, hydrating yet oil-free, full coverage, and cool tube packaging. Da bomb!!!
$42.00. Sephora.com

9. Mary Kay Medium Coverage Foundation

Great basic foundation for a great price!!! It keeps oil at bay the ENTIRE day and gives a natural and polished finish. It's not too dewy neither too matte and works great on mature skin as it does not settle into fine lines and wrinkles. It 's a great foundation for all skin types and washes off so easily. S14.00. See my wonderful Mary Kay consultant & Sil, Jenny Mathews

10. Stila Sheer Tinted Moisturizer SPF 30 Oil-free

This baby is my latest discovery. It's FANTASTIC for summer!!!!!!! It's a "your skin but better moisturizer". Once it's on, you can not detect one ounce of makeup but it really evens out the whole package. It's slightly dewy but not as oily as the original formula. And you can't beat the SPF 30. It is a great summer staple!!! $36.00. Sephora.com

That was highly enlightening! I want to try them all~ ;) I've heard that Bare Essentials is kind of chalk-y. I want to try this Everday Minerals stuff. I love the MK mineral foundation, but I've never tried another one to compare to it.

I so love that photo of you and Shi. It's my favorite! Tooo sweet.

Great blog L!! This is going to be such a great way for you to share your many years of experience, expertise and knowledge with people like me who like to pretend they know a thing or two ;)

PS- Annabelle learned her first sign this week! She can sign "Milk!" I know, cool huh?

Okay, so I LOVE the Mary Kay mineral foundation, but it makes me break out. It's weird, because nothing makes me break out! Except this!

I tried Raw Minerals (it's a lot like Bare Essentuals) but I really hated it. It went on thick, but the coverage was bad. So, lots of make up, no coverage. Also weird.

So what can I use that's like the MK mineral foundation? Any ideas?
